First Impression

I heard of the place from a chef I knew and he gave it a raving review and so when my girlfriends birthday came around I used it as a chance to head to Denver and give the place a try. It’s hard to miss with it’s big squid hanging on the side of the building saying BLUE SUSHI, I felt it to be a little outta place. I made a reservation so we were able to sit as soon as we got there. The inside was very nice and there is no other word to use then Hip. It seems to have a theme for each part of the dinning room and we were placed in the side with a big boat on the ceiling next to a bar with a big tv, the other side looked more traditional and to be honest a little nicer. After we were at the table it took the waitress a little to make her way to us witch would have been fine had she been a friendly server or even a good one at that. Not only did she cut right to the chase and not even asked us how we are or have we been in before and worst of all when I said we have never been in and to walk us though the menu or at least the specials she looked very annoyed, so much so that I said never mind I’d figure it out and she walked away never to be seen again. I’m sure she thought we were one of THOSE tables and switched servers but sadly for her she missed a pretty big tip.

The Food

After awhile before I found out she had gave us to someone else we had a chance to look at there menu and it was a pretty standard menu not to crazy with only a few really outstanding sounding or looking dishes. We had come for sushi though so we then dived in to the sushi menu, it was a long one that’s for sure but that all had one thing in common and that was the big price. Luckily we’re where there for a big event so I came prepared to spend a lot. We both got some soup and got a slu of sushi after the new server finally came over. The food took a hot minute to come out but luckily we got those soups in between to tie us over and the soup was very good. When the sushi came out it was very pretty and nicely put together looking very instagram worthy, and the taste was good to but the fact was Maybe it was my fault or maybe the place but the sushi I got seemed to all taste super similar the sauces and the colors all tasted so similar I try to order things I don’t usually have but it seems I failed this time. All in all though the food was good but not as spectacular as I was led to believe.

Review

The place was very well kept and it for sure had its theme of Asia but I feel it could have been a little more uniform that’s a preference though the place was very nice even still. All though the service fell short the new server I got after the first one had a much better attitude and was much more attentive. The food was good but I guess I received more hype then I should have for it fell short from my expectations. And like most sushi place there is the dreaded price, it was on the pricey side even for sushi though I expectedly to be expensive I was still shocked by the price for the size and quality for the food, being hit with the 130$ tab was not a highlight to the night. As the price and the crappy server I still enjoyed the place and the food was far from bad by any means. I would still recommend the place for it’s nice atmosphere and uniqueness of the place, but if you don’t live in Denver I say there are far cheap places that serve the same if not slightly better food around boulder and even broomfield area.
